About the Campaign
The Alliance for Homebuyer Justice is a project of the Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA). LIUNA founded the Alliance for Homebuyer Justice, made up of labor, religious, and community organizations, to fight deceptive and abusive practices in the homebuilding and mortgage industry.
LIUNA’s half-million members do the hard work every day of building our country and communities. LIUNA helps make construction a family-supporting career by working to improve wages, benefits and jobsite safety and with extensive, top-notch training programs. But now the entire industry – and in fact, our world economy – is facing massive job loss, falling wages, and devastated retirement security because of the housing market crash. It’s a crisis caused in part by the big, corporate homebuilders who victimized employees and homeowners.
The Alliance for Homebuyer Justice is uniting the men and women who build homes and homeowners to:
- Raise wages, benefits and training for residential construction workers, and to protect their freedom to join together and collectively bargain with their contractors.
- Ensure that homebuyers have access to affordable and sustainable mortgages from sources independent of the corporate builders they purchase a home from.
- Increase the quality of new homes and make sure homeowners can effectively address construction deficiencies.
- Make sure that corporate homebuilders develop communities with the public interest and responsible development practices in mind.
