Quality of Life
Corporate home builders should live up to their commitments to create safe and healthy communities. However, too often large home builders have put profit ahead of their workers, homebuyers, and the communities they build, creating conditions that have undermined the quality of life in the communities they operate in.
Homebuilders have pushed local government officials to cut corners and change zoning and planning regulations at the community’s expense. Pressure from homebuilders has resulted in exceptions to rules that protect the community from pollution; including air and water quality, the noise and dust effects of ongoing construction and transportation congestion problems. Numerous legal settlements show that corporate homebuilders are scofflaws when it comes to protecting the air and water quality in the communities they operate in.
