Wage Fraud

The corporate homebuilders have squeezed their subcontractors, such as SelectBuild, who do the actual work of building houses. In order to meet ever-bigger price concessions, subcontractors cut wages – and it appears, sometimes did not pay wages at all.

Based on statements from employees of the nation’s largest residential construction subcontractor – which does significant work for the largest corporate homebuilders – cheating workers out of wages is systemic and pervasive. According to workers for SelectBuild, the largest residential construction contractor in the country, the company:

  • Routinely failed to pay overtime wages and other wages due as required by law.
  • Falsified workers’ timesheets.
  • Required workers to be at work without pay while traveling between jobsites and while materials were being delivered or put in place.
